Welcome to this web site dedicated to the rescue of Border Collies within New Mexico. The aim of this site is to provide information and resources for those of us who do Border Collie Rescue independently within the state. Since there is no state wide organization, our resources are stretched thinly and any help we can give and get from one another is appreciated.
On this site will be listed any rescue contacts who wish to be listed along with pictures of dogs they may currently have, or requests for dogs they have received which they themselves cannot fulfill but another rescuer might.
Also, for those who want to help with rescue efforts but are not in a position to actually rescue and foster dogs, there will be a section for you called "Contacts and Helpers". If you want to and are able to do things like home visits with potential adopters, help with transportation, visit local pounds, or any other rescue related work, I would love to include your contact information here.
This site will (I hope) be growing continually so please check back periodically for new information. I welcome comments and suggestions on how to improve this site and make it more useful to other rescuers, so please feel free to contact me.

Located in Farmington in the North West part of the state, 4-CIBCR takes in Border Collies from local shelters as well as other parts of the state. Dogs are reviewed for temperament and other factors to aid in successful placement. If possible, dogs are tested on sheep to determine if they have herding instinct, desire, and any ability. Some training is done depending on the length of stay.

CARLY
I would like to find a home for Carly, a registered, red and white, female border collie, born 10/27/04. Her owner kept her as the pick-of-the-litter to train to work stock. However, when Carly was 6 months old her owner became very ill and was not able to train her. The owner is recovering, but Carly has spent much of the past year in a kennel, and the owner has come to the realization that he can no longer keep all of his dogs. He has asked me to try to find a home for Carly because she is so incredibly sweet and kind. He has started working her on cattle again, but she doesn't seem to have an instinctual outrun, and her time in the kennel has made her somewhat shy, so she barks and dives at the cattle when she does work them. The owner also has sheep, but Carly shows no interest in working them. Though she probably has the potential of working stock for a very patient trainer (her sire is an incredible working dog), I would like to find a home where Carly is primarily a pet. Again, she is extremely sweet, loves to be petted, and is quite calm for a border collie. She is an outside dog and gets along with her kennel-mate and the other dogs on the ranch. She does not chase the numerous cats found on the ranch. Carly has not been around children younger than about 10 years old. She loves attention so I would expect her to do well around small children, but would imagine that it might take her some time to become accustomed to the movement of toddlers and younger elementary children. JET
Jet is 3 or 4 years old and came from the AHA. The owner works a lot and did not know about Border Collie energy. He is inside part of the time, on a chain the rest because of insufficient fence. Plays ball. Is affectionate. Hasn't been socialized. Barks at other dogs but has not shown aggression. Contact Patty at 505-771-8735 or Joyce at 505-898-5433 or joycefay@broandtracy.org. Jet is located in Placitas.

3 NO-NAMES
This means that they are just waiting for you to take them and name them. For more information please contact Sena at sfitz@nedcomm.nm.org.
This is "Young Boy" - probably not more than 5 months.
This is "Young Guy" - possibly 2 years old.
This youngster is probably a BC / Aussie mix.
